The history of Mekes - part 5

Explained by Ronald Mekes:

During my studies at the Graphic School in Utrecht, I helped my mom and dad with their business.

I was happy to be a part of this. After my studies and military service, I immediately joined my dad with the possibility to take over his company.

At that time my dad was 61 years old, my age now… In the course of 1985, my father and I had different insights on how the company should continue.

My dad was only interested in the trade, I on the other hand was thinking more in total solutions. What I had in mind, required investment in personnel and organization. My dad saw all the fuss coming at him.

Therefore we agreed that I should start on my own title and responsibility. This meant that I had to set up my own company.

In other words, we became “competitors”.

Of course, that was not entirely true, but I was thrown into the deep and had to stand on my own feet.
